Here are photos from my Long Trail hike which don’t conveniently fit in any of the categories above.

The perfect bear hang. The key is finding the proper tree. You need a sturdy limb well off the ground that also sticks out far from the trunk of the tree. That way a bear standing on the ground can’t reach your food bag. Neither can the bear reach the bag by climbing the tree. Proper trees aren’t always easy to find.

I passed by Youth Conservation Corps members who were making improvements to the trail.

A humble frog hiding in the leaves.

A mushroom — edible, poisonous, I wouldn’t know.

When you see an old stone wall in the woods, you know that long ago this was a cleared farmer’s field.

Trail Magic. I confess, I drank two sodas.

A glider flew by when I was at the top of the Sugarbush Ski Area.

A rock pile sculpture by the trail.

The visitors center at Smugglers Notch State Park. It was built during the Depression by the Civilian Conservation Corps. I love the rough wood siding.

My last photo from the Long Trail. I’ll leave you with a little love.
