I’ve been a hiker all my life. That’s because I had a father who was a hiker.
In 1977, when I was 20, I thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail.
I retired at the end of March, 2021 and immediately began section hiking the Pacific Crest Trail.
Flip-flopping around, starting and stopping, it took me two plus years to finish the trail. There were wildfires I needed to contend with. Also, it didn’t feel right to “ghost” my wife for more than four weeks at a time.
Since 2021, I’ve also hiked several other long-distance trails — the 260-mile Benton MacKaye Trail in Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina; the 250-mile Tuscarora Trail in Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania; the 240-mile Ozark Highlands Trail and the 220-mile Ouachita Trail in Arkansas; and the 275-mile Long Trail in Vermont.
You’ll find blog posts on all of these hikes. The blog posts are in reverse chronological order — newest to oldest.
Enjoy.
