Where does your water come from?

c) Andrew Carter, 2021

From Mother Nature, meaning a spring, stream, or creek. Then I filter it in case there are any tiny bad guys in it.

Step 1: Mother Nature

Step 2: My water filter

I just completed a multi-year thru hike (MYTH) of the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). It took three years. I hiked 1840 miles in 2021, 733 miles in 2022, and 122 miles in 2023. The only reason I had to hike in 2023 was a wildfire closure at the north end of the PCT in 2022. During the past two years, I've also thru hiked other, shorter US trails. I hiked the Benton MacKaye Trail (GA, NC, TN) and the Tuscarora Trail (VA, WV, MD, PA) in 2022 plus the Ozark Highlands Trail (AR) in 2023. I hope to hike the Long Trail (VT) next year and the Colorado Trail at some point in the future. Please note, all content on this site is copyright.

  1. It’s so amazing to realize how nature is always in motion, dynamic. And so beautiful to watch. Enjoy!

    1. The sound of the water is so beautiful too. It’s interesting to think how something as “permanent” as a spring or brook is actually always transitory because in every moment the water is always different. Actually, out here, most water sources aren’t permanent, just seasonal. That’s true of rivers, too. Guadalupe is on the Santa Maria River. In 3 years there, there was only one period where the water was above grounds. Yet, there were tomes in the town’s history where parts of it experienced flooding.

  2. Nice to see that you have more available water now. The desert was very interesting (cacti, etc.), but the little lakes and ponds look interesting as well. Some ponds in the last video look to only be depressions in the monolith and probably exist as small ponds only in the spring and early summer. It all looks so beautiful… and serenely quiet. The wind is your company, telling you a story!!! Enjoy.
