Terminal Geyser, Lassen National Park

c) Andrew Carter, 2021

Not really a geyser. It never erupts and shoots water into the air. But still pretty cool.

And a closer view.

I just completed a multi-year thru hike (MYTH) of the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). It took three years. I hiked 1840 miles in 2021, 733 miles in 2022, and 122 miles in 2023. The only reason I had to hike in 2023 was a wildfire closure at the north end of the PCT in 2022. During the past two years, I've also thru hiked other, shorter US trails. I hiked the Benton MacKaye Trail (GA, NC, TN) and the Tuscarora Trail (VA, WV, MD, PA) in 2022 plus the Ozark Highlands Trail (AR) in 2023. I hope to hike the Long Trail (VT) next year and the Colorado Trail at some point in the future. Please note, all content on this site is copyright.

  1. You are getting close! Where did you take this from?

    1. An overlook off CA Rt. 44 near Old Station. The PCT passes through this overlook. I now anticipate being at I-5 on 6/22, not 6/21. My 64-year old body is telling me not to crank out so many miles each day. Will keep you posted.

    1. Hot enough. I got a little to close to the steam & it almost burned me. There was also water emerging from the steam hole which one could only put ones finger in briefly. The odd thing is their were no warning signs or barriers.

  2. Answer: at least boiling water hot, and that’s enough! Man that’s cool. I bet under wet conditions (like not the constant current drought) that that baby spits up a bunch of water!

    Thanks for the video.
